May is Global Employee Health & Fitness Month. The goal of this month is to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle to employers and employees through workforce health promotion activities and environments. Here are three tips to keep you healthy and fit at the workplace:
Stay Hydrated
Being well hydrated is key to stay productive, maintain your energy levels and its good for your overall health. You can buy a large bottle and refill it throughout the workday, or keep a glass at your desk to count down eight glasses of water a day. Walking to get water or to use the restroom will also help you to stay moving throughout the day, especially if you work primarily from a desk.
Pack a Healthy Lunch and Snacks
Nutrition is essential in your health and fitness routine. Pack a healthy lunch of lean protein, salad, fresh vegetables and fresh fruits. Make sure to pack fresh and filling snacks such as unsalted mixed nuts, fruits, raisins, prunes, granola bars, beef jerky, whole wheat crackers and low-fat string cheese. Portion the amount of coffee and sweets you eat at the workplace and avoid vending machines and candy bowls.
Take a Break
We all have busy days at work, but it’s important to take a few minutes to step away from your projects and regroup. Weather permitting, go outdoors and have a short walk. Bring a book, knitting project or any hobby you enjoy to refresh and relax before returning to work.
